SLIK Relaxation Will Not Automatically Boost Demand for Subsidised Housing

General Secretary of the Central Board of the Indonesian Real Estate Companies Association (REI), Raymond Ardan Arfandy, assesses that the easing of requirements for the Financial Services Information System (SLIK) will not immediately increase demand for subsidised housing. Previously, the government had relaxed SLIK so that people with credit records below Rp 1 million could apply for subsidised housing credit.

“Will this (policy) increase demand or not? In my opinion, it will help, but it will not increase it significantly,” said Raymond when contacted on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. According to him, if the barrier to accessing subsidised mortgage (KPR) was only due to a credit record of Rp 1 million, the public should be able to settle that obligation without a new policy.

Raymond explained that the reasons why people fail to pay up to Rp 1 million must also be investigated. Because, people who apply for KPR will later have to repay the obligation with the same amount every month.

Nevertheless, Raymond said that REI welcomes the new policy. “We hope this can help the public who may have faced barriers in bank records to gain some leeway,” he stated.

The SLIK relaxation was decided after the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, met with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, at the OJK office. The new provision aims to support the 3 million houses programme.

“In yesterday’s Board of Commissioners Meeting, we decided that in the SLIK report, the information to be displayed is credit with a nominal value above Rp 1 million, either based on the accumulation of the debtor’s credit record or its outstanding debit balance,” said Friderica in Jakarta on Monday, 13 April 2026, quoted from a press release.

In addition, OJK is accelerating the update of loan repayment status in SLIK to a maximum of three working days after repayment is made. This policy will be implemented at the latest by the end of June 2026. It is hoped that updating the status within three days can help speed up the housing financing application process.
