Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Sleman Regency Government has partnered with 34 higher education institutions to continue the Sleman Pintar Scholarship Programme for 2026. The signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for the Sleman Pintar Scholarship Programme 2026 Phase I, between the Sleman Regency Government through the Head of the Social Service Department and 34 higher education institutions in DIY, was held at the Sleman Regent’s Official Residence on Friday. The Regional Secretary of Sleman Regency, Susmiarto, said the signing of the PKS represents a commitment to improving the quality of human resources through broader access to education for the community. “The Sleman Pintar Scholarship Programme is one of the measures by the Sleman Regency Government to build a future for Sleman’s young generation that is smarter, more critical, creative and innovative,” he said. He stated that education is the key to improving human resource quality and also the most effective way to break the intergenerational poverty cycle. “The Sleman Regency Government believes that every child has the same right to have dreams, to study and to achieve a better future. However, we recognise that many families face economic constraints, making access to higher education a heavy challenge,” he said. He emphasised that the Sleman Pintar Scholarship Programme is a form of government responsiveness to the community, especially low-income families, so that Sleman’s children still have the opportunity to continue their education to university. “We believe that the greatest investment of a region is not only physical development, but human development. The Sleman Government has a major aspiration to ensure at least one graduate in every family, without exception,” he said. Head of the Higher Education Service Institute (LLDIKTI) Region V of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Setyabudi Indartono, praised the move by the Sleman Regency Government to build capable human resources through education. “What the Sleman government has done is greatly appreciated by us, and we hope this becomes part of our collaborative steps. Sleman Regency is one of the areas in DIY with many higher education institutions,” he said. He said they are committed to restoring the prestige of education in Yogyakarta to shine again as the main destination for higher education, through efforts to promote higher quality private universities in Yogyakarta, so that the study programmes offered can achieve excellent accreditation. “I think this is also part of our collective gratitude among us in Sleman that one direct or indirect effect of having higher education institutions in Sleman can improve the quality of life of Sleman residents,” he said. Through this collaboration, the Sleman Regency Government hopes the Sleman Pintar Scholarship Programme can provide real benefits to the community, and encourage the realization of a Sleman youth generation that has decent jobs and incomes so that family living standards also rise.
