Sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno Passes Away; Pramono Anung: Father of the Nation Embraced Everyone
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conveyed his deep condolences upon the passing of Sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno. Visiting the deceased’s residence, Pramono expressed his loss of a statesman who throughout his life dedicated himself to the nation and state.
“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. As someone who knew Try Sutrisno closely for a long time, I naturally feel a profound sense of loss,” Pramono said at the residence on Tuesday, 2 March.
According to Pramono, Try Sutrisno was a founding father figure capable of embracing all segments of society. Pramono stated he had known the late statesman since around 1995 and valued Sutrisno’s consistency and steadfastness as an example for successive generations.
“He was a founding father who embraced everyone. I have known him since around ’95, so I have known him for quite a long time. We have all lost someone who, until the end of his life, dedicated himself to the nation and state,” he said.
Pramono recounted that his last meeting with Try Sutrisno occurred approximately five to six months prior. At that time, the late vice president remained active in his role at the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), particularly in strengthening Pancasila values and constitutional principles.
“I last met him roughly five to six months ago. He was indeed still active at BPIP. When it comes to matters of Pancasila and our constitution, he always upheld them firmly,” he stated.
Pramono emphasised that Try Sutrisno’s commitment to the constitution was not merely a political stance, but rather intrinsic to his way of life.
“Constitutional matters were something inherent in his life. That is what distinguished Try from other figures,” Pramono asserted firmly.
Regarding health matters, Pramono acknowledged that Try Sutrisno had experienced physical decline in recent times. However, his spirit of service reportedly never diminished, even at nearly 90 years of age. “His condition had deteriorated recently, but his spirit never wavered. Even at nearly 90 years old, his spirit never flagged,” he said.
The Commander of the Indonesian Military, General Agus Subiyanto, received the remains of Sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno for a military burial. The Sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia was renowned as a leader capable of embracing diverse segments of society.
