Six years for killing nephews

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Hasan Basri, a 44-year old resident of Simalingkar, was sentenced to six years in prison after the Medan District Court found him guilty of killing his two nephews, Suhendar and Dicky, last October.

Antara reported that the murder took place after the two nephews, aged 20 and 18, demanded that Hasan's father, 70-year- old Harun, give them their portion of their deceased father's inheritance.

After Harun refused, the young men -- one of whom was waving a long knife -- then chased their grandfather until the old man fell. Enraged, Hasan picked up a spear, ran after the nephews and killed them.

Also in Medan, 30-year-old Edi Binsar Sinaga was sentenced to a ten-year prison term for the murder of a prostitute last November following an argument over money. (swe)
