Six Merah Putih Cooperatives Begin Operations in Sumedang
Six Merah Putih Village/Ward Cooperatives (KDKMP) were officially inaugurated and began operations last weekend. Currently, the number of completed KDKMP units has reached 38, out of a target of 90 units for this year. The six operational cooperatives are located in Citimun Village (Cimalaka District), Sukawening Village (Ganeas District), Mulyasari Village (North Sumedang), Mekarjaya Village (North Sumedang), Pasirnanjung Village (Cimanggung), and Haurkuning Village (Paseh).
The Regent of Sumedang, Dony Ahmad Munir, stated that the operation of the KDKMP is a collective achievement and effort. He noted that despite various challenges and obstacles, problems can be resolved through unity. He further emphasised that this success is inseparable from the cohesion of all parties and the community of Sumedang Regency in supporting national strategic programmes.
“Make ourselves part of the solution, not part of the problem, and do not be pessimistic towards government programmes, but rather be part of the optimism,” he said. The Regent also urged all village heads to participate in the success of various national strategic programmes, including the KDKMP.
He explained that the KDKMP is one of the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of village communities through a cooperative-based economic approach. “We cannot continue to use the same methods and expect different results. KDKMP is one of the new ways to build community prosperity. We have experience with how the Village Unit Cooperatives (KUD) once flourished—from the village, by the village, and for the village. Now, the government is reintroducing that spirit through KDKMP,” he remarked.
The Regent also requested the Department of Cooperatives, UKMPP, and the Department of Community and Village Empowerment, along with all government ranks, to accelerate the construction and operationalisation of KDKMP in Sumedang. He expressed hope that the target of constructing more than 140 KDKMP units in Sumedang Regency can be achieved and that all cooperatives can soon operate to support the economic improvement of village communities.
