Singaporean arrested
JAKARTA (JP): A Singaporean was arrested by an Immigration
Officer in Bogor, 30 kilometers to the south of here, on Monday
after he allegedly tried to gain an Indonesian passport using a
fake Indonesian citizenship card.
The immigration officer reportedly ascertained that the
Singaporean, identified as Abd. R bin M.Y., had obtained the
counterfeit citizenship card and a phony family record card from
a civil servant in Sukabumi, West Java.
The Suara Pembaruan daily reported that Abd. is the holder of
a Singaporean passport, due to expire on March 2, 2004. The
newspaper reported that he came to Indonesia on Dec. 1, entering
the country at Batam island, and later went to Sukabumi in West
Java where he married a local woman on Dec. 19 last year.
Abd told the immigration officer that he had been forced to
stay in Sukabumi because he was running out of money with which
to go back to Singapore. (mas)
