Singapore Tops Foreign Investment in Indonesia During January-September 2017
The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) recorded Singapore as the largest foreign investor in Indonesia during the January-September 2017 period. Total investment realisation during the period reached Rp 513.2 trillion, comprising Rp 318.5 trillion in foreign direct investment (PMA) and Rp 194.7 trillion in domestic investment (PMDN).
"Singapore ranks first in foreign investment with US$6.1 billion," said BKPM Deputy for Investment Implementation Control Azhar Lubis at his office in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Monday, 30 October 2017.
Investment funds from Singapore accounted for 25.6 per cent of total foreign direct investment during January-September 2017. Japan ranked second with US$4 billion or 16.8 per cent of total FDI. China came third with US$2.7 billion, representing 11.5 per cent. The United States followed with US$1.5 billion (6.4 per cent), whilst South Korea contributed US$1.4 billion (5.7 per cent).
Singapore's dominance extended beyond the nine-month period, also topping investment figures in the third quarter (July-September 2017), with US$2.5 billion in foreign investment flowing into Indonesia. Total investment realisation in the third quarter stood at Rp 176.6 trillion, consisting of Rp 64.9 trillion in domestic investment and Rp 111.7 trillion in foreign investment.
BKPM recorded the four other largest foreign investors alongside Singapore in the third quarter as Japan with US$1.1 billion, China with US$0.8 billion, the United States with US$0.6 billion, and South Korea with US$0.4 billion.
