Singapore education system introduced in RI
It has always been every parents' hope to send their children to the best school for their education. Now, Jakarta has an additional choice in the Singapore International School (SIS), which claims to offer Singapore's high education standard for expatriates in the capital.
Any expatriate children can enroll as long as they fulfill the prevailing statutory requirements of Indonesian laws governing international schools.
SIS' classes include preprimary and primary. Admission is open to children of expatriates of all nationalities in Indonesia.
SIS is modeled after the Singapore concept of education in an international environment. Key teachers are all recruited from Singapore and have extensive experience with the Singapore curriculum.
Adopting a Singapore education curriculum set by the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE), SIS offers mother tongue language as a Second Language and strives to prepare its students to further their education in Singapore and beyond.
SIS provides a Singapore-based education. Founded on the principles that govern it, SIS will ensure that its pupils are exposed to a wider world, and they are equipped with the skills to take greater responsibility for their own learning and the capacity to ensure their own survival. In addition, the school will seek to acquaint pupils with their own heritage and to work closely with parents. It will be guided by the pursuit of high standards in all its endeavors.
SIS aims to provide a well-rounded education for pupils to excel academically, develop strong moral character, be physically fit and able to appreciate art, music and culture.
The two main long-term goals are character formation and bringing the best out of each and every pupil. SIS believes that for an educational institute to be successful, emphasis must be placed on character formation and then academic excellence. SIS would continue to provide an environment in which pupils and staff are given opportunities to exercise their initiative and creativity.
Everyone develops at SIS, where a culture of both pupils and staff are continually learning. This is in line with Singapore's national vision of "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation".
The school's motto Towards Greater Heights hopes that the staff and pupils will work hard and progress together to achieve success in all their endeavors.
SIS initially started in early 1997. This historic moment was a culmination of planning and conceptualizing since 1994 by a group of concerned Singaporeans in Jakarta.
This group was formed to address the educational concerns of fellow Singaporeans in Indonesia for their children.
There was a yearning for a school cast in the cultural milieu of Singapore, with emphasis on high standards, character and moral formation, the mother tongue, traditional values and the Singapore spirit. In essence, they wanted a Singapore-style education for their children.
The school is strategically located at Gandaria, South Jakarta, and has a growing enrollment. Parents who are interested in registering their children must fill in the application forms which are available from the school office. A copy of the Parent's Handbook will be given upon registration.
