Siloam to open new center

JAKARTA (JP): Siloam Gleneagles Hospital in Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang will open a heart, lung and vascular center soon.

The hospital's public relations manager, Lidia Winarto, said that the center's opening will include an international conference and transfer of knowledge for enlarged heart reduction surgery to Indonesian doctors.

"The conference will feature a live demonstration of 'the Batista procedure' for patients with enlarged and failing hearts," Lidia said in a statement.

She said the operation involves removing a piece of living heart muscle from an enlarged heart and sewing the remaining heart together.

The hospital is the first joint venture hospital in the country which involves foreign investment. (ste)
