Silmy Karim and Seven Immigration Officials Suspended After Being Named Suspects
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs has suspended eight officials who have been designated as suspects in a bribery case involving the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals.
One of those suspended is the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Silmy Karim.
Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Agus Andrianto, stated that the suspension is being carried out as an internal disciplinary sanction against the suspects. He added that the suspension is also intended to ensure that the legal process at the KPK can proceed quickly.
“As a step in enforcing internal discipline, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs has suspended the officials in question from their positions,” he said in a written statement on Thursday (June 4).
“This step is taken to ensure that the legal process can proceed without obstacles, while also maintaining the smooth functioning of public services,” he added.
Furthermore, Agus assured that his ministry fully supports the ongoing legal process at the KPK. The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs will also be cooperative and provide access to data and documents needed by investigators to uncover the case.
“The ongoing legal process must be supported, and I ask all parties to be accommodating in supporting this process,” he explained.
He added that the actions taken by the KPK also serve as a momentum for reform and strengthening immigration governance to be more transparent and accountable.
“What is happening now is also a moment for us to reform and strengthen immigration governance to be more transparent and accountable,” he said.
Previously, the KPK named the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Silmy Karim, as a suspect in a bribery and gratification case related to the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals.
In addition, the KPK also named the former Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam (SMG), as well as the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for West Java, Jaya Saputra (JS); Head of the Sub-Directorate for Residence Permit Transfers at the Directorate General of Immigration, Tessar Bayu Setyaji (TBS).
Also named as suspects were the Head of the Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo (BGS); Head of the Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office for West Jakarta 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah (RAA); Head of the ITAS Residence Permit Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi (JSP); and Staff of the Residence Permit Sub-Directorate, Gusti Benardiansyah (GST).
The designation of suspects is a continuation of the Surprise Operation (OTT) conducted in West Jakarta on June 2-3, 2026.
During the operation, the KPK seized at least four cars, nine motorcycles, and seven bicycles. In addition, the KPK also seized foreign currency, namely Singapore dollars and US dollars, as well as gold bullion from the operation.
