SilkAir to serve Sumatra

JAKARTA (JP): The SilkAir of Singapore will begin later this month direct services to two cities in Sumatra, Padang and Pekanbaru, three times a week with Fokker-70 jets.

The airline's executive in Jakarta Tintin Sophia told The Jakarta Post here yesterday that service to Padang, the capital of West Sumatra, will start on March 26, and to Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau, on March 29.

SilkAir will serve Padang every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, with the return flights leaving for Singapore on the same day from Tabing airport. Services to Pekanbaru will be every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Tintin said that SilkAir will also launch services to Solo, Central Java, later this year in cooperation with a local airline company to be appointed by the Indonesian government.

The five-year old SilkAir currently links Singapore with Medan of North Sumatra (seven times per week), Manado of North Sulawesi (two times per week) and Jakarta (21 times per week).(icn)
