SilkAir gets insurance claim
SINGAPORE (Reuters): Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA) insurers have paid out a US$35.5 million claim for the SilkAir aircraft that crashed into the Musi river in South Sumatra last year, Singapore's Business Times reported on Saturday.
"In fact, the money was paid by the insurers in January last year, within weeks of the crash, to its owner," the paper quoted an SIA source as saying.
The money however only covered US$35 million for the loss of the hull and the $500,000 insured loss arising from search and rescue efforts for the SilkAir aircraft, the paper said.
The risks of the crashed Boeing 737-300 plane and other aircraft in the SIA group are underwritten by more than 80 direct insurers and reinsurers in Asia, Europe and North America.
SIA officials could not be reached immediately for comment.
