Siliwangi Train Serves as Daily Companion for Thousands Between Sukabumi and Cipatat
457,890 passengers have used the Siliwangi train service from January to April 2026 at a PSO fare of Rp5,000. Mornings along the Sukabumi-Cianjur-Cipatat route are filled with diverse stories and aspirations: traders carrying goods at dawn, students heading to school, workers rushing to office, and parents visiting relatives in neighbouring towns. Amid these simple journeys, the Siliwangi train has become a daily part of community life.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 457,890 passengers for the Siliwangi service between January and April 2026. The high passenger numbers show that rail travel remains the preferred choice for locals on the Cianjur route due to its safety, affordability, and comfort.
KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, Anne Purba, said the Siliwangi train has a strong connection with the community, having long served as a link for daily activities in Sukabumi, Cianjur, and West Bandung.
“Every Siliwangi journey carries countless life stories—students chasing dreams, traders earning a living for their families, and people reuniting with loved ones. That’s why the Siliwangi train holds such close meaning for the community,” Purba said.
Through the Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme, passengers can travel approximately 67 kilometres for Rp5,000. This fare helps reduce daily commuting costs, particularly for regular travellers using the train for work, education, trade, or inter-regional activities.
The Siliwangi service begins at Sukabumi Station, bustling with daily activity. The train then passes through Gandasoli, Cireungas, Cibadak, Karangtengah, Cianjur, Ciranjang, Cipeuyeum, Gekbrong, Lampegan, and Cibeber stations before ending at Cipatat Station.
Each station has its own unique stories and activities. In Cibadak and Cireungas, the train is vital for trade and agricultural mobility. In Cianjur and Ciranjang, it aids access to education, healthcare, and economic hubs. Meanwhile, Lampegan and Cibeber offer serene mountain scenery for peaceful journeys.
Passengers enjoy views of rice fields, green hills, and cool mountain air. As the train enters the legendary Lampegan Tunnel, the journey takes travellers through the long history of railway heritage in the Priangan region.
The Siliwangi train also provides key access to West Java’s tourist destinations. From Cibeber Station, passengers can continue to Gunung Padang Megalithic Site. From Cipatat Station, visitors explore Stone Garden and Pawon Cave, known for their ancient karst landscapes and historical significance.
According to Purba, the Siliwangi service supports the local economy along the Cianjur route. Easier mobility has boosted local trade, agricultural distribution, and tourism.
“Many passengers know each other from daily encounters on the same route. A sense of closeness develops within the train. That’s why the Siliwangi train is part of the community’s daily life,” she concluded.
