Sign Language Interpreter Present at Cimahi City Nuzulul Qur’an Commemoration
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIMAHI – In order to enhance spirituality and integrity amid the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, the Cimahi City Government (Pemkot Cimahi) held the Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration of 1447 on Friday night (6 March 2026). A sign language interpreter was present so that messages from the commemoration of the historic revelation of the first verses of the Qur’an could be accessed by people with disabilities, particularly the Deaf.
The Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration was held at the Grand Mosque of Cimahi and attended by representatives of Forkopimda, local government agencies, vertical institutions, ulama, leaders of pesantren, and various elements of society. All those present listened with deep devotion to the tausiyah delivered by KH Ubaidillah AB.
Deputy Mayor of Cimahi Ngatiyana said that the Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration is one of the important moments for Muslims to reflect again on the values contained in the Qur’an as a guide to life. The night of the 17th of Ramadan has a special meaning in Islamic history. The night is commemorated as the moment of the revelation of the first verses to the Prophet Muhammad SAW, namely Surah Al-Alaq verses 1–5. “The night of 17 Ramadan is a special night, when, in history, the revelation of the first verses to our Prophet Muhammad SAW occurred with the revelation of Surah Al-Alaq verses 1-5,” said Adhitia.
According to him, the Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration is not merely a moment to recall the event of the Qur’an’s revelation, but also a reminder for Muslims to make the Qur’an a guide in daily life. “Earlier I also invited the congregation at the Grand Mosque to join in praying the Khutmil Qur’an prayer as a reminder for us all that the Qur’an should be the reference we use in carrying out daily life activities, such as that,” he said.
Tonight’s Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration felt more special as the Cimahi City Government brought a sign language interpreter to accompany the proceedings from the opening remarks to the tausyiah. This ensures that religious messages are accessible to people with disabilities, especially the Deaf.
That step is the Cimahi City Government’s commitment to ensuring all layers of society have an equal opportunity to participate in religious and social activities in public spaces.
“What is even more special about this Nuzulul Qur’an night, and this should be a model for other regions, is that we, the Cimahi City Government, are committed to continuing to advance Cimahi as an inclusive city,” Adhitia said.
According to Adhitia, the presence of a sign language interpreter in religious events also shows that Islamic values uphold openness and respect for the diversity of the community. “This is a symbol that the Nuzulul Qur’an commemorations is not only about recalling when the Qur’an was revealed or how to implement it, but that the Qur’an and Islam are inclusive and tolerant for everyone,” he added.
Through this Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration, the Cimahi City Government hopes the public will not only observe the revelation of the Qur’an ceremonially but also strengthen the commitment to practising its teachings in daily life, whether within families, social environments, or in broader community life.
