Sidoarjo Customs Office Destroys 3.9 Million Illegal Cigarettes Worth Billions of Rupiah
Sidoarjo Customs Office destroyed 3.9 million illegal cigarettes from enforcement actions valued at Rp5.9 billion. The destruction took place on 9-10 April 2026 at PT Putra Restu Ibu Abadi (PRIA), Mojokerto, East Java. The illegal excise goods (BKC) destroyed in detail amounted to 3,973,604 sticks. Meanwhile, the total estimated value of the goods reached Rp5,900,801,940.00, with a potential state loss of Rp3,844,918,834.00. The destruction was carried out using the incineration method inside an incinerator machine. The destruction was done so that the goods cannot be used or reused, ensuring the physical form of the goods is completely destroyed. Meanwhile, the incineration using an incinerator machine aims to destroy waste efficiently, reduce waste volume, and eliminate hazardous materials. The Head of the Sidoarjo Customs Office, Rudy Hery Kurniawan, stated that the destruction is not merely an embodiment of law enforcement but also a form of education for the public to better understand the dangers and negative impacts of illegal excise goods. He said that the circulation of these illegal BKC not only harms the state but also endangers public health and disrupts healthy business competition. “Several excise regulations violated include not being affixed with excise stamps, using fake or non-compliant excise stamps under Law No. 39 of 2007 on Excise,” said Rudy. He urged the public not to buy, consume, distribute, or trade illegal BKC. He hopes the public can also play an active role in reporting indications of illegal BKC circulation to the official Customs information channels. “We will continue to conduct field surveillance and enforcement until a law-abiding environment is created,” said Rudy.
