Sidewalk on Jalan Jaksa Street Used for Vehicle Parking, Here's the Current Condition
JAKARTA — Several vehicles parked on the sidewalk of Jalan Jaksa in Central Jakarta have come under scrutiny following a video that went viral on social media. The footage shows cars and motorbikes crowding the sidewalk, disrupting access for pedestrians.
The video was uploaded by the Instagram account @ijoeel. In the post, the recorder highlights vehicles parked on the sidewalk not far from the Kebon Sirih sub-district office. He also claims to have reported the alleged violation to the sub-district authorities.
“I complained at the nearest sub-district office from the City Hall. The PTSP in the government office should serve residents who want to file complaints, but in reality, it’s just passed around,” reads the caption from ijoeel.
Meanwhile, four-wheeled vehicles are seen parked in the respective parking areas of buildings or businesses along Jalan Jaksa.
A vendor in the area, Agus (40), said the location is usually quiet on weekends. The situation differs on weekdays when office activities increase.
“On Saturdays and Sundays, it’s definitely quiet here. But on workdays, it’s crowded and some park on the sidewalk,” said Agus when met on Jalan Jaksa on Sunday.
Agus claims he does not know the exact origin of the vehicles parked on the sidewalk. However, he often sees this occurring on weekdays.
“I don’t know for sure because I go around, but I stand by around here. Those cars are usually from nearby offices and those eating around here on regular days,” he said.
A similar view was expressed by a local resident, Bima (26), who says he often sees vehicles parked on the sidewalk on weekdays.
“If I pass by here often, there are many on regular days. But on Sundays like this, it’s quiet. I often pass by here because I live nearby,” he revealed.
He hopes vehicles will no longer park on the sidewalk because the path is for pedestrians, especially on weekdays.
“Yes, if possible, park elsewhere. There are many people walking here because it’s near offices. It’s also dangerous if pedestrians have to go down to the road,” he said.
