TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - The sidewalk around Batu Ceper Station in Poris Plawad, Tangerang City, which was once filled with illegal motorcycle parking, now appears clean after a video of the situation went viral on social media.

Nevertheless, the arrangements made by the government are considered not to fully address the issues of pedestrian comfort and safety.

In the video, there was not even a small space left for residents to pass on the sidewalk.

As a result, pedestrians were forced to walk on the roadside filled with passing vehicles.

This condition triggered complaints from netizens because the sidewalk, which should be a safe space for pedestrians, had instead become a parking area.

After going viral, the illegal parking at the location is no longer visible. Based on Kompas.com’s observations at the site on Thursday (9/4/2026), the sidewalk has been fitted with yellow concrete barriers.

At least five concrete barriers were installed across the middle of the sidewalk to prevent vehicles from parking in the area again.

Although the sidewalk appears more orderly, the presence of the barriers is considered to reduce space for pedestrian movement.

“Now there are no motorcycles parked, so it’s tidier. But the path is narrower because of this concrete,” said Widya (27), one of the pedestrians met at the location.

She hopes that the arrangements will be carried out more optimally so as not to compromise the comfort of sidewalk users again.

Bambang (47), a KRL commuter, said that drivers have to cross a major road with heavy traffic flow passed by trucks and buses.

Not only that, trucks and buses pass through the road at high speeds.

“Sometimes I just don’t feel like walking because I have to cross twice. The problem is the vehicles passing by are huge and going very fast,” said Bambang.
