Sibenpopo-Banemo peace agreement: villagers agree to end conflict
Ternate (ANTARA) - The communities of Sibenpopo Village and Banemo Village, in Patani Barat Subdistrict, Central Halmahera, North Maluku, have finally agreed to end their conflict through the signing of a peace declaration on Tuesday (7/4) afternoon, born out of the sincere desire of all parties.
The Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner General of Police Wahyu Istanto Bram, contacted in Ternate on Wednesday, stated that this agreement serves as an important foundation for maintaining security stability in the area.
“This represents a collective commitment to keep the situation conducive and to strengthen inter-community relations once again,” he said.
The event was also attended by the North Maluku Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Waris Agono, along with TNI personnel, local government representatives, and community leaders who together witnessed the birth of this peace commitment.
Now, new hope is growing among the people of Central Halmahera that the wounds of the conflict can heal, and the brotherhood that was once fractured can be restored intact.
The agreement marks an important step in restoring inter-community relations, following previous misunderstandings that triggered the brawl.
In an orderly atmosphere filled with awareness, both parties expressed their commitment to maintaining brotherhood and creating a safe and harmonious life.
“Thus, in the joint statement, the communities affirmed that they are brothers bound by the values of Fagogoru, and they regret the conflict that occurred,” he said.
They also agreed to forgive each other, end all conflicts, and promise not to repeat similar incidents in the future.
In addition, both villages reject all forms of provocation and commit to resolving every issue through deliberation involving adat leaders, religious figures, and the government.
