Should You Play Padel During Ramadan? Hear What Doctors Advise
Enthusiasm for playing padel does not diminish during Ramadan. However, a common question arises among practitioners: is it safe to play padel on an empty stomach and with reduced bodily hydration?
Dr Doni Revai from Sari Asih Ciputat Hospital in South Tangerang believes that fasting is not an obstacle to remaining active on the padel court, provided one can manage time and duration with strict discipline. “This sport burns fat and helps strengthen the heart muscle whilst improving blood circulation. It is best to play doubles, choose an indoor court with good air circulation or air conditioning to minimise fluid loss through perspiration,” said Dr Doni Revai in Tangerang on Saturday (28 February 2026).
Other exercise options that people can undertake during Ramadan include leisurely walking to maintain blood circulation without overexerting the heart, and gentle cycling in the afternoon whilst waiting for sunset to break fast. Yoga focusing on breathing and muscle stretching to reduce body stiffness, and light weight training to preserve muscle mass during the fasting month, are also suitable options.
“During fasting, the body tends to increase use of fat reserves as an energy source, although glucose continues to be used in limited quantities. Therefore, avoid strenuous exercise,” he said.
