JAKARTA – The functional lane of the Yogyakarta–Bawen Toll Road Section 6 Ambarawa–Bawen has been officially opened by PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk ahead of the 2026 Eid holiday period.

According to data from PT Jasamarga Jogja Bawen (JJB), during its initial two-day operation on 13–14 March 2026, a total of 5,496 vehicles traversed the 4.98-kilometre functional lane.

Jasa Marga Chief Executive Officer Rivan A. Purwantono stated that the functional lane segment from Ambarawa to Bawen is ready to serve road users during this year’s Eid period, from the perspectives of construction, operational services, and coordination with all stakeholders.

“During the two-day operation of the Yogyakarta–Bawen Toll Road functional lane, 5,496 vehicles were recorded passing through, with 2,232 vehicles on the first day (13 March) and increasing to 3,264 vehicles on the second day (14 March),” Rivan said in an official statement on Sunday (15 March 2026).

The Yogyakarta–Bawen Toll Road Section 6 Ambarawa–Bawen functional lane operates daily from 06:00 to 17:00 WIB with a one-way system aligned with the exodus and return traffic periods.

During the exodus period running from 13–22 March 2026, the lane opens in one direction from Bawen towards Ambarawa. Meanwhile, during the return period from 23–30 March 2026, the lane functions in the opposite direction from Ambarawa towards Bawen.

The functional lane can only be used by Class I vehicles (non-bus) with a maximum speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour to ensure road user safety.

“Operationally, the presence of this lane is considered strategic as it can help ease traffic congestion in the Bawen toll exit area, particularly for travellers heading towards Magelang, Temanggung, Wonosobo and surrounding areas,” Rivan said.

“With this alternative route, vehicle flow distribution is expected to become more efficient and capable of reducing potential queuing on main arterial roads, including in the Bawen Terminal Junction area which serves as a meeting point for traffic flows from Semarang, Solo and Magelang,” he added.

To support safety and comfort for road users, various traffic signs and road safety equipment have been prepared along the functional lane. From a service perspective, operational fleets such as security patrol vehicles have also been deployed.

The Ambarawa–Bawen functional lane connects directly with the Trans-Java Toll Road network segment from Semarang to Solo, providing a smoother travel alternative for road users from the GT Bawen direction towards Magelang, Temanggung and surrounding areas.
