Jakarta — Shopping centre operators have revealed that occupancy and sales at malls are expected to increase significantly during Eid al-Fitr 1447 H (Eid 2026).

Alphonzus Widjaja, chairman of the Association of Indonesian Shopping Centre Managers (APPBI), stated that mall occupancy and sales after Eid have the potential to increase from normal levels, with this growth particularly expected on the second day of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

“Visitor traffic to shopping centres will increase again during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, particularly beginning on the second day of Eid after communities celebrate and exchange visits with family, relatives and others,” Alphonzus told CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

The association has predicted that visitor numbers to malls during Ramadan and Eid this year will rise 10–15 per cent compared with the previous year.

“It is estimated that average visitor traffic to shopping centres before and during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr will increase approximately 10–15 per cent compared with last year,” he explained.

According to Alphonzus, almost all product categories will experience increased sales during Ramadan. However, consumer shopping patterns will shift approaching and during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, with the public tending to purchase food and beverages as well as entertainment.

“Almost all product categories and goods will experience increased sales during Ramadan. Shopping patterns will change approaching Eid al-Fitr and during the Eid holiday when the public will tend to purchase food and beverages, as well as entertainment,” he noted.

Alphonzus stated that the Ramadan and Eid season represents the most important period for Indonesia’s retail industry, serving as the peak sales season each year.

“During a period when national economic growth remains below optimal levels as at present, the retail industry will maximise all sales opportunities to boost performance as high as possible, particularly during Ramadan and Eid, which represent the peak retail season in Indonesia,” he said.

To maximise this opportunity, shopping centres will present various entertainment activities and themed decorations to attract visitors.

“As customary when welcoming and celebrating major holidays, shopping centres will organise various events, attractions, activities and performances featuring arts, music, culture, entertainment and more to draw visitors to the centre,” Alphonzus stated.

“Visitors will experience unique and memorable moments whilst at the shopping centre with beautiful decorations that cannot be found in ordinary everyday conditions,” he added.
