A shop house (ruko) housing a confectionery business in Tambora, West Jakarta caught fire in the early hours on Friday, 13 March 2026, with several personnel sustaining injuries during the emergency response.
According to Ahmad Saiful Kahfi, Operations Chief of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, five firefighters were injured. The injured personnel, identified by their initials as KSD (40), RDB (38), SFA (35), ADT (40), and SYD, sustained injuries ranging from building debris impact to respiratory difficulties and falls from ladders during the firefighting operation.
Twenty-eight fire trucks and 140 personnel were deployed to the scene at Jalan Tanah Sereal RT 11 RW 9 in Tanah Sereal, Tambora, West Jakarta. The fire consumed an area of approximately 1,000 square metres.
The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DKI Jakarta) documented two residents, ANS (17) and SBL (16), who suffered foot injuries and respiratory distress as a result of the fire.
According to Yohan, Head of the BPBD DKI Jakarta Data and Information Centre, the fire affected multiple structures including a garment-making home industry, residences, and a traditional food stall. Approximately 200 residents from dozens of families across two neighbourhood blocks have been displaced.
The fire was first noticed by residents who observed confectionery workers running and calling for assistance. The flames originated from machinery on the first floor before spreading to upper levels.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical fault in the garment-making machine was the probable cause of the fire.
