Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) held a socialisation event titled ‘Synergy of Regulation and Safety: Implementation of Bottom Damage Stability & Double Bottom on Cargo and Passenger Ships of the National Fleet’. The activity took place at the ASTON Samarinda Hotel & Convention Center, Samarinda. This event became a strategic forum bringing together regulators, industry players, and maritime stakeholders. Its aim was to align perceptions on the implementation of ship safety regulations while encouraging the improvement of national fleet safety standards for safe and sustainable sea transport. Present at the event were BKI Classification Business Operations Director Arief Budi Permana, representatives from the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, namely Director of Shipping and Seafaring Ir. Samsuddin, M.T., M.Mar.E., Subdirector of Design, Load Lines and Stability Amir Makbul, M.T., M.Mar, and Head of Legal Status Section of KSOP Class I Samarinda Syahriar, S.SIT., M.H. Also present were Chairman of INSA Samarinda H. Agus Sakhlan, S.E. and Chairman of IPERINDO East Kalimantan Dr. H. Untung Suropati, S.E., M.M. In his remarks, BKI Classification Business Operations Director Arief Budi Permana stressed that shipping safety must be a priority for all stakeholders. ‘Safety is not only the obligation of regulators, but a shared responsibility to protect human lives, safeguard assets, and ensure the sustainability of the national shipping industry,’ he said. Meanwhile, Director of Shipping and Seafaring Samsuddin stated that this forum was important to align understanding between regulators, classification bodies, ship owners, and shipyards, particularly regarding the harmonisation of ship safety requirements. ‘I hope there will be input for improving regulations according to the needs of the community. In this way, we jointly support the improvement of ship safety and create a more competitive and sustainable shipping business climate,’ said Samsuddin. Through this socialisation, BKI affirmed its commitment to strengthening the alignment of understanding among stakeholders. The goal is for the processes of planning, construction, certification, and operation of ships to run more effectively. This effort is also directed at encouraging the implementation of better safety standards in the national fleet and minimising the risk of shipping accidents.
