Sexual Harassment Allegations on Jakarta Kota-Bogor KRL Route; KCI Investigates Suspect
KCI continues its investigation into a video of alleged sexual harassment involving a woman aboard a KRL commuter train on the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route, which circulated on social media. The investigation aims to identify the suspect.
“We are currently following up by conducting an investigation process to identify the suspected perpetrator as described by the victim,” said KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan on Friday, 27 February 2026.
Once the suspect is verified, they will be entered into the CCTV database. Subsequently, CCTV analysis will be conducted to record their facial features.
“If the suspect is verified, they will be entered into the CCTV analytic database. CCTV analytic is a system capable of recording faces,” he explained.
Following identification, the suspect will be blacklisted and prohibited from using the commuter line. Should the suspect attempt to board, they will be detected through facial recognition by the CCTV system.
“The suspect will be blacklisted and cannot use the commuter line. A notification will appear if the suspect enters a station through CCTV facial recognition,” he stated.
Previously, a video of a woman claiming to be a victim of sexual harassment aboard a KRL train on the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route circulated on social media. The woman reported the incident to officials at Cilebut Station.
In the video, the woman recounted that she boarded at Manggarai Station. During the journey, she began feeling physical contact. Initially, she dismissed it as contact from other passengers’ bags. However, one man allegedly spoke to her directly, crudely asking whether she was angry when his genitals rubbed against her during the journey.
The woman stated that other passengers did not assist her and merely looked in her direction. She ultimately decided to exit at Cilebut Station and report the incident to station staff.
When confirmed, KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda stated the incident occurred on 22 January. The company has taken action on the victim’s report.
“We immediately followed up on the report. KAI Commuter is certainly always prepared to provide full support to protect and assist the victim in pursuing legal proceedings with the authorities,” she said.
