Severe Traffic Congestion at Gilimanuk: Transport Minister Dudy Reports Vehicle Surge
Jakarta, Kompas.com — Lengthy congestion has occurred in the Gilimanuk Port area, Bali, owing to the high volume of vehicles seeking to cross to Java during the Lebaran exodus period in 2026.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandi stated that the congestion was caused by a surge in vehicles disproportionate to the capacity of the ferry service.
This was conveyed by Dudy following his attendance at the Launch of Residential Development in Support of the 3 Million Houses Programme in Manggarai, Jakarta, on Monday (16 March 2026).
According to Dudy, the government has anticipated potential congestion at ferry ports, including Gilimanuk, through various traffic management schemes and inter-agency coordination.
He explained that vehicle flow management towards the port is conducted in stages through traffic engineering measures. This includes queuing arrangements and vehicle restrictions entering the port area in accordance with ferry capacity.
Additionally, coordination is also conducted with ferry operators and police to ensure vehicle distribution proceeds in an orderly manner.
Dudy added that the public is urged to monitor traffic information regularly and follow field personnel instructions to avoid prolonged congestion.
The government continues to evaluate field conditions to ensure smooth Lebaran travel flow, particularly at critical junctures such as ferry ports.
