Several Unlicensed Padel Courts in Jakarta Begin to Be Sealed, Pramono Says: We Will Take Firm Action
Jakarta – The Jakarta Provincial Government has begun sealing padel courts operating without permits in recent days. At least three padel courts have been sealed in Jakarta within a short span. Governor Pramono Anung said every padel court operating in his jurisdiction must have permits, particularly the Building Permit (PBG). If owners fail to obtain the permits, authorities will not hesitate to take firm action. ‘So for padel in Jakarta, everyone must be licensed and have a PBG. For all padel that do not have a PBG, we will take firm action,’ he said at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday (4 March 2026). He acknowledged that there had recently been complaints from residents about padel activities causing noise. Therefore, they issued a rule that padel courts located in residential zones may not operate beyond 8:00 PM WIB. ‘Meanwhile for padel courts in housing areas, even if they already have a PBG, I have heard some want to negotiate beyond 8 PM; we will not allow it. Maximum is 8 PM,’ Pramono said. Earlier, the South Jakarta Office of the Suku Dinas Cipta Karya, Tata Ruang dan Pertanahan (Citata) sealed Fourthwall Padel on Jalan Haji Nawi Raya, Gandaria Selatan, Cilandak, on Tuesday (3 March 2026). The sealing was carried out because the padel facility had previously drawn complaints from residents and was deemed to violate the rules. Head of the South Jakarta Citata Office, Andy Lazuardy, said the action was taken because the facility did not have a complete operating license. As such, they re-sealed the padel court. ‘We re-sealed, given that previously the district authorities had sealed the location. All actions we take are based on applicable regulations,’ he said in a statement, Tuesday. He explained that under Government Regulation (PP) No. 16 of 2021 on Buildings and PP No. 21 of 2021 on Spatial Planning, buildings without licenses are subject to sanctions in the form of sealing. The sealing will continue until the operator meets the requirements. ‘Initially the building did not have a license but continued operating, so today we reaffirm the sealing status until the requirements are met,’ Andy said. Before the sealing was carried out, the operators were aware of the violations. The South Jakarta Citata Office had also issued administrative procedures starting from the First Warning Letter (SP1), SP2 to SP3, and the initial sealing in November 2025. ‘We emphasise that, essentially, the licensing process is ongoing. However, there remains one requirement that has not yet been fulfilled,’ he said.
