Seven female students at SMA Negeri 1 Insana, Timor Tengah Utara (TTU), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), were poisoned after consuming the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) menu on Wednesday (4 March 2026). Six have been discharged, while one student remains under medical care. ‘Yes, they are all female. There is still one student undergoing inpatient care at Puskesmas Oelolok,’ TTU Police Public Relations Sub-Section Head for Information Documentation Management (PIDM), Ipda Markus Wilco Mitang, told detikBali on Friday (6 March 2026).

Mitang explained that the poisoning began when about 542 MBG beneficiaries at SMAN 1 Insana consumed MBG meals comprising nasi, ayam woku, tempe goreng, saus tiram, sayur labu, and buah lengkeng. Afterwards, the victims experienced nausea, abdominal pains, and diarrhoea. Not long after, the seven students were rushed to Puskesmas Oelolok for medical treatment.

‘However, the exact cause of the poisoning is still awaiting further examination results from the Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten TTU in conjunction with related agencies,’ Wilco said.

According to Wilco, the menu was prepared in line with nutritionist recommendations and distributed to all beneficiaries with the same menu type; the only difference was portion size according to educational level.

MBG distribution began in the morning, with delivery to SMAN 1 Insana around 12:30 WITA as the final location. The menu was supplied from the Susulaku SPPG kitchen in Insana District, managed by Petrus Renoldy Ki’i.

As a follow-up, samples of the food have been taken by health department personnel for laboratory testing to confirm content and food safety.

‘We, together with the relevant parties, are still awaiting the test results to determine the exact cause of the incident. The condition of the students under care continues to be monitored and cross-agency coordination remains in place to ensure optimal handling,’ Wilco said.
