Serang Detention Centre Plans Iftar Gathering for Inmates and Families
The head of the Class IIB Serang Detention Centre, Rangga Permata, revealed on Tuesday in Serang that the programme was designed to provide a humanistic approach and moral support for inmates so they could still experience the warmth of family during their sentences.
“We are planning a communal iftar between inmates and their respective families. This aims to provide a moment of togetherness whilst also forming an important part of the personality development process,” he said.
Rangga explained that in addition to facilitating family visits, the Serang Detention Centre had also arranged a packed schedule of spiritual activities, including congregational tarawih prayers and communal Quran recitation sessions within the facility.
The programme plans were announced by Rangga on the sidelines of a community clean-up event at the Ats-Tsauroh Grand Mosque in Serang. During the activity, the detention centre deployed 30 inmates who had met administrative requirements to participate in community service outside the facility walls.
The mosque clean-up initiative was intended to create a comfortable worship environment for the public, whilst simultaneously instilling environmental awareness values among the inmates.
“With a clean environment and a schedule rich in religious values, it is hoped that inmates can serve their sentences with a spirit of positive change,” he added.
Through the communal iftar programme and various spiritual activities, the Serang Detention Centre is committed to creating a more humanistic correctional system that supports the restoration of each inmate’s sense of identity before they eventually return to society.
