Sentul preparing for A1 Grand Prix

JAKARTA: The Sentul international circuit in West Java is preparing to host an A1 Grand Prix stop from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15, with organizers expecting about 50,000 spectators in total.

The vice president of A1 Grand Prix Indonesia, Basuki Wijaya, said in a press release on Friday that the event, in which Indonesia will be represented by Ananda Mikola, would help boost the image of the country.

"Unlike in F1, in A1 Grand Prix the name of the country is prioritized, and this will help in Indonesia's bid to raise its image in an international forum," he said.

Indonesia will be the seventh stop in the 12-leg A1 Grand Prix, after England, Germany, Portugal, Australia, Malaysia and Dubai. The five races to follow will be in South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, the United States and Shanghai.

Sentul circuit director Rio Sarwono said the track had been renovated in the last three months to meet the standards of the A1.

"The renovation is almost finished. It is 90 percent done," he said as quoted by detik.com. --JP
