Semper brawl kills one

JAKARTA (JP): A mass brawl which allegedly involved Madurese
and Betawi (native Jakartan) residents of Kampung Kandang, Semper
subdistrict, Cilincing, has left one person dead, police said.

Police subprecinct chief Renhard Hutagaol was quoted by Antara
as saying on Monday that the mass brawl was sparked by the
killing of a Betawi resident by a man reported to be Madurese
last Saturday night.

He said the brawl lasted until late on Sunday. By early on
Monday the police had managed to restore order to the area.

According to officer Renhard, the police had arrested a man
named Hasan, a resident of Kampung Kandang. It is not known
whether there were any other casualties as a result of the brawl.
