Semarang City Mayor Agustina Wilujeng inspected homes damaged by a tornado in RT 07 RW 12, Gisikdrono Village, West Semarang District, on Wednesday 25 February 2026.

The damage to residents’ homes was caused by heavy-intensity rainfall accompanied by strong winds that swept through the West Semarang area during the afternoon and evening. These extreme weather conditions caused roof damage to homes and the collapse of some building materials.

In addressing the situation, Agustina stated that the Semarang City Government responded quickly upon receiving reports from residents and local officials. “We received reports of homes in Gisikdrono affected by strong winds accompanied by heavy rain. That same evening, district, village, disaster management agency (BPBD), and relevant agency officials immediately went to the location to conduct assessment and initial response,” she said.

Based on preliminary data, damage included detached roofs, light to moderate structural damage, and the need for repairs to affected building sections. There were no fatalities reported. Rapid steps taken by Semarang City Government included damage documentation, distribution of emergency relief supplies, and distribution of tarps to protect damaged home sections from subsequent rainfall.

“We ensure that affected residents will receive aid in accordance with regulations. The government must be present when people face disaster,” Agustina stated.

She also urged the public to increase vigilance regarding potential extreme weather that may still occur. Residents were asked to ensure roof conditions are safe, trim tree branches at risk of falling, and promptly report to local officials if they identify any potential hazards.

“We cannot avoid extreme weather, but we can minimise its impact. Therefore, collaboration between government and the public is key,” she said.

Through a rapid field response, Semarang City Government is committed to ensuring public safety whilst strengthening city resilience against hydrometeorological disaster risks.
