Semanggi Park to Be Revitalised as Iconic Public Space
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will revitalise Semanggi Park into an iconic modern green public space for the community. The revitalisation is projected for completion in time for Jakarta's 500th anniversary in 2027.
"Starting from today until, God willing, 22 June 2027, Jakarta will have a new and improved showcase called Semanggi," Pramono said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Semanggi Park revitalisation project in South Jakarta on Friday, 20 February 2026, as quoted from a written statement.
Pramono said the revitalisation represents a tribute to the grand vision of Bung Karno in 1962. The four leaves of the clover, symbolising function, connectivity, transformation, and aesthetics, will now be reinforced through a regeneration concept more relevant to contemporary needs.
"The DKI Jakarta administration wants this place to truly become an iconic venue that everyone can make good use of," he said.
Semanggi Park covers approximately 6.5 hectares spread across the four quadrants of the Semanggi Interchange. The area has thus far tended to be passive and fragmented by heavy traffic flows.
Through the revitalisation, Pramono said, the area will be transformed into an active public space and a connectivity hub to facilitate public mobility and activities.
The construction of Semanggi Park aims to reactivate various public facilities, including sports areas, activity plazas, and communal spaces, without disrupting traffic flow in the area.
"For anyone, whether in groups or otherwise, they can make use of this place," Pramono said.
The park revitalisation is targeted to take 18 months and is planned for completion in June 2027, coinciding with the celebration of Jakarta's 500th anniversary. The construction, requiring Rp 134 billion in funding, will use non-regional budget funds through private-sector collaboration via a creative financing scheme based on naming rights.
"Of course, for whoever transforms this place, our partner is spending a considerable sum of Rp 134 billion, and they must also subsequently benefit from the improved Semanggi," Pramono said.
