Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has officially announced the second phase of evacuation for personnel and families of workers from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) in southern Iran. This action has been taken following the escalation of armed conflict that increasingly threatens the safety of civilians and foreign experts in the region.

Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev stated that the company’s primary priority is ensuring the safety of more than 600 Russian nationals involved in the construction project of Units 2 and 3 at Bushehr.

“We will promptly relocate them to safe locations in Russia,” Likhachev told the Strana Rosatom newspaper.

Due to deteriorating security conditions, Rosatom has also confirmed that main construction work on Units 2 and 3 of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has been temporarily suspended. Nevertheless, a small number of personnel remain on-site to conduct equipment maintenance and complete technical work that cannot be abruptly halted to prevent system damage.

This evacuation marks the second phase of optimising Russian workforce deployment in Iran. Previously, the first phase successfully returned an initial group of worker families, as the scope of aerial attacks on various strategic facilities across Iran has expanded. Rosatom stated that it had evacuated nearly 100 people from Iran.
