Security Stability Becomes the Foundation for Smooth Development of IKN and National Strategic Programmes
Strengthening security stability in East Kalimantan has become a vital component in supporting the smooth development and sustainability of national strategic programmes.
As the region serves as the location for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), collaboration between national defence elements and local governments is increasingly viewed as essential to ensure a safe, conducive, and productive situation for both the community and development efforts.
The commitment to strengthening this synergy was a key focus during a visit by the Commander of Joint Regional Defence Command II (Pangkogabwilcalhan II), Marsdya TNI Muzafar, to the Balikpapan Mayor’s official residence on Monday (14/09/2026).
The visit, accompanied by senior officials from Kogabwilhan II, was received by the Mayor of Balikpapan, Rahmad Mas’ud. The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere and addressed several strategic issues, particularly regarding regional security, local stability, and support for the continued development of IKN and its buffer zones.
Balikpapan holds a strategic position in supporting the development of IKN. The city serves as one of the primary gateways to the new capital region and plays a crucial role in supporting human mobility, logistics distribution, economic activities, and various construction needs in East Kalimantan.
Consequently, security stability and regional conduciveness are inseparable factors from the success of the national development agenda in the area. The presence and synergy of various elements, including the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) and local government, are part of the effort to maintain regional readiness in facing evolving development dynamics.
During the occasion, Pangkogabwilhan II Marsdya TNI Muzafar expressed his appreciation for the welcome provided by the Balikpapan City Government. He reaffirmed Kogabwilhan II’s commitment to continuously strengthening synergy with local governments to maintain security stability and support the smooth implementation of various national strategic programmes in the East Kalimantan region.
According to him, collaboration between defence institutions and local governments is significant because security is not only related to preparedness against potential disruptions but also serves as the foundation for fostering public trust and the continuity of development activities.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Balikpapan, Rahmad Mas’ud, welcomed the visit from the Kogabwilhan II officials. He noted that the presence of national defence elements provides a sense of security and confidence for the community, especially considering Balikpapan’s position as a primary gateway to IKN.
He assessed that a strong relationship between the TNI and local government is a key factor in creating a harmonious and conducive situation. Such stability is required so that various development agendas can proceed effectively and provide broader benefits to the community.
The synergy between the TNI and local government is also part of a development approach that places security as a primary foundation. When regional stability is maintained, economic activities, investment, public services, and infrastructure development have greater space to develop sustainably.
