The trust of a gold shop owner in Jembrana, Bali, was betrayed. A security guard, who was supposed to maintain security, instead stole 11.5 kilograms of jewellery and sold it to gamble online. This act was carried out gradually over several months, resulting in losses of IDR 2.4 billion.

This case became a highlight during Operation Sikat Agung 2026, conducted by the Jembrana Police Criminal Investigation Unit for 16 days, from January 28 to February 12, 2026. From a target of five cases, the police uncovered seven cases with seven suspects and various methods.

“The methods vary, from taking advantage of keys left in the ignition, to breaking into school doors, to climbing over the walls of residents’ houses,” said Jembrana Police Chief, AKBP Kadek Citra Dewi Suparwati, during a press conference at the Jembrana Regency Auditorium, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).

The most striking case occurred at the Sinar Mutiara Gold Shop, Loloan Timur, Jembrana District. The suspect, MY (30), an employee who also served as a security guard, was arrested after CCTV footage showed him taking the gold jewellery gradually.

The total amount of gold stolen reached 11,500 grams, or 11.5 kilograms. The estimated loss is IDR 2.4 billion.

Citra explained that MY had been operating since October 2025 until January 2026. He took advantage of the moment when cleaning the glass display case to take the jewellery little by little so as not to be immediately detected.

“The perpetrator, MY, took advantage of the situation while working. The proceeds from the sales were used to meet needs and one of them was used for online gambling. Officers successfully profiled and arrested the perpetrator along with the evidence,” Citra said.

In addition to the gold shop case, the police also arrested DS (48) who broke into State Elementary School 2 Tegalcangkring. He climbed over the school fence and then pried open the door of the teacher’s room and the principal’s office.

From DS, the police confiscated a printer, a lawn mower, and several Chromebook units. “The suspect, DS, was secured on the side of the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road, Pekutatan District. The school’s losses reached IDR 30.7 million,” Citra added.

Another case was the theft of a Honda Supra motorcycle in the rice fields of Kaliakah Village by IWSM (35). The motorcycle was stolen because the victim left the key in the ignition.

This operation also ensnared a minor. A teenager with the initials BCE (15) broke into a house in Banjar Anyar by climbing over the wall using bamboo and took away money and jewellery worth IDR 21.5 million.

Meanwhile, ATG (17) stole a Kawasaki Ninja SS motorcycle from a warehouse and took it to Banyuwangi, East Java.

The suspects are now being held at the Jembrana Police Headquarters. They are charged with Article 476 of the Criminal Code regarding theft, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, and Article 477 of the Criminal Code regarding aggravated theft, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Citra reminded the public not to be careless in protecting their property.

“We remind you again, do not leave keys in the ignition. Make sure the house doors are double-locked and reactivate neighborhood watch patrols. Security is our shared responsibility,” she concluded.
