Securing Indonesia's Future: Chubb's New Manufacturing Plant
Amid the insecurities challenging Indonesia, ironically, one company's future is safe.
Chubb Indonesia is currently celebrating its 25th birthday by expanding operations with the opening of new state-of-the-art premises at east of Jakarta.
In business since 1818, the Chubb name is now synonymous with security worldwide. Indeed, a look under "Chubb" in your Oxford dictionary will turn up "locking mechanism" as the meaning.
So, if you're addressing personal safety, or contemplating wide-scale security measures, access solutions from Chubb Indonesia and reap the benefit of Chubb Indonesia's experience.
Everyone has a right to feel safe and secure. The risk of fire and theft are evils that threaten our lives on a daily basis. Consequently, now is the time to unlock the door to specialist advice.
Chubb Indonesia -- a subsidiary of Williams PLC, the world's biggest security company -- is the group with the answers. Whether you are seeking a retail market padlock for that extra re- assurance; investing in the most reliable fire extinguishers; installing the latest access control systems, or fitting out a Boeing 777 aeroplane with the latest KIDDE fire suppression system, Chubb will give you peace of mind.
Since commencing operations twenty-five years ago, significant growth has occurred. Three factors -- growing domestic sales in Indonesia; increased success in developing and penetrating export markets, and a broadening of the product range -- have seen output increase to over 2,000 units per month particularly in 1997/8. This represents a forty-fold growth rate in 23 years of manufacturing in Indonesia.
Chubb is investing some US$12 million in its new factory, which features the latest in industrial technology imported from Switzerland, Denmark and Australia -- backed by full American, British and European approvals. Computers control the factory's manufacturing process ensuring outstanding quality every time, a vital component when undertaking such complex tasks as laser cutting, robotic welding and other high-tech processes.
The new facility at MM2100 is almost double the combined floor space of previous Chubb factories in Pulogadung. A consequence of the vastly improved facilities is that over 20,000 safes, 10,000 fire resisting products, 1,500 vault room products and 280,000 fire extinguishers will be produced per annum.
These security products will be marketed under four divisions -- Safes, Fire Products, Electronic Security Systems and Fire Engineering.
The Safes Division develops and constructs a variety of lockable and impenetrable products. Safes, vault doors, fire doors, safety deposit lockers and fire resistant filing cabinets will be produced on site for use across Indonesia and the world.
From the front line of Chubb's Fire Products division will be a wide range of fire fighting equipment. Chubb fire extinguishers including dry powder, CO2, water foam or the latest ozone friendly Holotron 1 -- are recognized as the world's best and are guaranteed to give you peace of mind.
Chubb relies on the expertise of the world's number one fire engineering group, the KIDDE group to produce such results. KIDDE by Chubb combines advanced technology with local knowledge for complete fire safety -- be it fire alarms, CO2 systems, gas detection systems, sprinkler systems and foam systems - ensuring both personal and premises fire safety.
Electronic Security Systems are also available, providing the latest in surveillance and access control systems. Security monitoring centres, CCTV systems, intruder alarms, and individual security systems can be tailored according to specific requirements. Furthermore, these systems can be connected to a personal computer to record and print a full record of arrivals and departures from your premises.
Quality underpins success. Combining the latest technology and innovations with a workforce sufficiently empowered to make the right decisions is Chubb's tried and tested formula for success. A formula which has earned the company the coveted ISO 9002 Certificate, the first security manufacturer in Indonesia to have received such an accolade.
Chubb's skilled workforce is central to this award - with the company investing over Rupiah 500 million annually in human resource training. Chubb's investment in Indonesia continues through the enhancement of the country's skills base via the Chubb Scholarship Scheme, in which eight engineering and marketing students are awarded study scholarships at local universities. In addition, for particularly talented students, Chubb provides three complete study scholarships to universities in the United Kingdom for graduates to undertake Masters degrees in either engineering or marketing.
Graduates may then join some 550 colleagues at the new East Jakarta plant, or choose to assume managerial roles at any of Chubb's 27 branches throughout the country.
This synergy of technology and teamwork results in over 40% of domestic product being exported to 40 countries across five continents throughout the world.
Such a widespread distribution network has been built on years of overcoming seemingly insurmountable problems through persistent and dogged determination. Today Chubb's 27 branches stretch nationwide from Jakarta to Jayapura, Irian Jaya, to Lhokseumawe, North Sumatra, to Pontianak in Kalimantan -- each working towards the goal of providing the world's best in safety and fire control solutions.
Despite its reliance on sophisticated machinery and complex production techniques, Chubb Indonesia has demonstrated green credentials. Chubb Indonesia is a member of the Technical Committee for the Department of the Environment on the protection of the Ozone layer and Chubb was one of the first fire companies to produce ozone friendly extinguishers -- a move which necessitated other extinguisher companies to follow Chubb's example.
The opening of Chubb Indonesia's new manufacturing plant at the MM2100 Industrial Estate, Cibitung, will be officially inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Rahardi Ramelan, on Thursday, October 29, 1998. From day one customers throughout the archipelago, and the world over, can be secure in the knowledge that their safety investment -- made here in Indonesia with a proud and proven pedigree -- will uphold the Chubb standard for excellence well into the next century.
