Second Week of Ramadan: Chilli Prices in Bima Surge to IDR 100,000 per Kilogramme
West Nusa Tenggara Deputy Governor Indah Dhamayanti Putri (Umi Dinda) conducted a surprise inspection at Amahami Market in Bima City on Monday, 2 March 2026, during the second week of Ramadan.
During the inspection, Umi Dinda, accompanied by officials from the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government and Bima City Government, monitored commodity prices and ensured the availability of essential goods ahead of Ramadan. Whilst most commodity prices remained relatively stable, chilli prices were recorded as having experienced a sharp increase.
“Essential commodity prices in Bima City remain relatively stable, including rice. Only chilli has increased,” said Umi Dinda, accompanied by Bima City Vice Mayor Feri Sofiyan.
According to her, chilli prices in Bima City had risen from IDR 70,000 per kilogramme to IDR 100,000 per kilogramme. Nevertheless, chilli stocks and supplies in Bima City remained sufficient and controlled.
“Chilli prices have risen by approximately IDR 30,000 per kilogramme,” the Golkar Party Treasurer said.
Umi Dinda emphasised that the rise in chilli prices was not unique to Bima City, but had occurred across almost all districts and cities in West Nusa Tenggara. She attributed the price increase partly to minimal production despite very high demand.
“Chilli prices have risen across West Nusa Tenggara. However, the increase in Bima City is not as significant compared to other regions in West Nusa Tenggara,” she stressed.
Bima City Vice Mayor Feri Sofiyan stated that the market inspection was a government measure to ensure basic commodity prices in the market did not experience fluctuations during Ramadan and the lead-up to Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr).
“The average price of essential commodities in Bima City is normal and stable. There are no significant price increases,” he said.
Feri hoped these conditions would be maintained throughout Ramadan and until Lebaran. He emphasised that Bima City Government was committed to conducting intensive and regular monitoring of both commodity prices and supplies.
“We urge traders, distributors and agents to maintain price stability for essential goods and not to raise prices unilaterally,” said the Bima City PAN Party Chairman.
