Search for West Java Tourist Lost at Lakey Beach Hindered by Waves
The search for Rianto (23), a tourist from Majalengka, West Java, who went missing after being swept by waves at Lakey Beach in Hu’u District, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Wednesday (27 May 2026), has yet to yield results. Search teams and joint agencies are continuing the operation on the second day.
On the first day of the search, Thursday (28 May 2026), rescuers faced challenges due to high waves complicating diving operations. They only found the victim’s sandals among the coral rocks.
Acting Head of Dompu Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Wan Muhtajud, stated that the high waves at Lakey are a concern for search teams.
“The waves at Lakey are strong with many rocky areas, requiring high caution for the safety of personnel,” Wan told detikBali on Friday (29 May 2026).
Wan added that the joint teams initially aimed to conduct the search for three days, but this may be adjusted based on field conditions.
“The initial target is three days, which will be adjusted according to field conditions and secondary information received,” he said.
Previously, two domestic tourists were swept by waves during Eid al-Adha 1447 H celebrations at Lakey Beach on Wednesday afternoon, with one missing.
Both victims, from West Java, were in Dompu working on a project to build a stall for Merah Putih Village Cooperative. After celebrating Eid, they decided to holiday at Lakey Beach.
While swimming at the Rock Poll bathing spot in front of Ali’s Bar, they were suddenly hit by large waves and dragged far out.
