Sean Gelael's Grand Ambition: It's Time for Indonesia to Triumph in Endurance Racing
Indonesia’s proud racing star Sean Gelael has once again set high targets for the 2026 season. Not content with merely participating, Sean is determined to fly the Red and White flag on the world racing stage through a series of elite international events.
This season, Sean will compete alongside the legendary Italian team AF Corse, strengthening the AF Corse 51 squad. This major step has received full backing from Pertamina Patra Niaga, which continues its strategic collaboration to bring the spirit of “World-Class Performance, Indonesia’s Pride” to the global track.
Flagship products such as Pertamax Turbo and Pertamina Fastron will once again be featured on Sean’s race car. More than just sponsorship, this partnership symbolizes that national products are ready to compete at the highest level of world motorsport.
The year 2026 marks a crucial stage for Sean. He is scheduled to compete in a number of prestigious championships, including the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), GT World Challenge Europe – Endurance Cup, GT World Challenge Asia – Mandalika Round, and the Asian Le Mans Series 2025–2026.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Retail Marketing Director Eko Ricky Susanto emphasized that this collaboration is more than just an ordinary partnership. “Through our collaboration with AF Corse 51 and Sean Gelael, we want to demonstrate that Indonesian products like Pertamax Turbo and Pertamina Fastron are capable of representing performance, innovation, and global competitiveness,” he said at a press conference at IIMS JIExpo Kemayoran on Saturday, 14 February 2026.
For Sean, this season is not just about finishing or trophies. There is an unfinished mission. “Last year, and even over the past two years, we were actually always in a position where the win was in the bag at both WEC and GT World Challenge events,” said Sean.
He acknowledged that his team has reached the podium multiple times, even finishing as runner-up twice at WEC and Le Mans. However, the championship title has always slipped away at the final moments by the slimmest of margins. “In terms of potential, the opportunity is always there. God willing, hopefully this year will be our year. But we know that no one can predict the final outcome. We can only work hard and do our best,” stressed the 29-year-old driver.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun added that this support carries a message greater than just racing.
