SEA Games funds

From Sinar Pagi

The public has not received any response from the SEA Games consortium nor the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) on the specification of revenues and expenditures for the recently held SEA Games in Jakarta.

Through the letters column of a number of media I have proposed to the consortium and KONI to issue a statement on the funds collected from the public and their subsequent use.

This needs to be explained because the greater part of the funds came from the community who were forced to contribute to the funds. It is only logical that the public gets an explanation.

The community does not need written reports without clear specifications. If only estimates are given on revenues and expenditures, it is clearly a scam, because what is reported can be either true or untrue.

I apologize for my open questions. My intention is to avoid the practice of collusion in the use of the SEA Games funds as was the case with the latest national games (PON).

According to Sinar Pagi daily the funds collected amount to Rp 194,828 billion, a fantastic amount of money.

Our community obeys regulations. We will not accuse business tycoons of collusion in the use of the funds because we know that they are respected and wealthy. What we want to see is openness.

I need to add that the extension of the funds collection is a big burden for the community. I strongly disagree with the collection. But what can I do but accept the unpleasant necessity.

Again, what we need from the consortium is a clear explanation of the revenues from the SEA Games stickers and the expenditures. I trust the matter will not continue to be kept pending without any clarification.
