School vs. apartment
School vs. apartment
From Kompas
That the elementary school No 9/10 at Kuningan, South Jakarta, has to be moved to make room for construction of an apartment complex by PT Catur Swasakti Utama (PT CSU) has caused us great concern. The Company may have followed the correct procedures, but what is clear is that the weak party is always in a poor bargaining position when faced with a powerful agent.
What could elementary school children do in this situation? Certainly they could not possibly take to the streets to protest the project, even at the cost of their schooling privileges.
In this context I share the opinion of Kompas editorial that stated at the end of September that: "Capital is vital to support development. Unfortunately, this major factor cannot take into account the social costs that are paid as a result of capital dominance."
I hope the management of the apartment complex will take concrete actions to ensure that the poor children can continue learning peacefully and rightfully.
