School dispute goes to rights body

TANGERANG: With residents of Karang Tengah continuing to block access to the Sang Timur Catholic school, the Tangerang municipality took the case to the National Commission on Human Rights.

Mayor Wahidin Halim said the rights commission received a report on the case on Monday.

"I hope all parties can clearly see that this is not a religion issue," he said on Wednesday.

Residents have blocked access to the school since October, saying they are annoyed by the traffic the school attracts and demanding its closure. The school has been open in the area for 12 years. -- JP
