School curriculum
School curriculum
From Media Indonesia
Looking at the new school curriculum, I can only imagine how
difficult it must be for junior high school students to learn
their subjects adequately. This is particularly so because of the
amount of time that the Ministry of National Education have
allocated for studying, which is far too short to allow students
to cover the syllabus.
With such limited time some amount of subject content has to
be left out and teachers tend to speed up their teaching to cover
the syllabus as quickly as possible. Such a situation is no
problem to students with the ability to absorb large amounts of
information. However, students with lesser abilities have been
unable to absorb the necessary information properly.
I have also observed a lack of balance in favor of scientific
subjects, which indicates that the arts, which reflect the spirit
and character of the Indonesian nation, are now being ignored.
Realizing the two problems, I appeal to the Ministry of
National Education to reconsider its decision, especially in
relation to the limited amount of study time and class hours.
