School aid funds
need control

From Warta Kota

In response to the report in Warta Kota (June 28) entitled
Free elementary schools, humbug, as a school committee executive
I would like to clarify that besides the aid for state elementary
and junior high schools to mitigate the effects of the fuel
subsidy reduction, a block grant is also provided in Jakarta.

The grant, based on Jakarta's basic education provisions,
consists of Rp 1.5 million per month for elementary school
operations and Rp 20,000 per student, per month for educational
expenses, and junior high school allocations are Rp 2.5 million
and Rp 27,500 respectively.

In addition, elementary schools also receive Rp 12 million
annual aid and junior high schools Rp 35.2 million annual aid per
unit from the grant for the purchase of compulsory books.

With the block grant and the fuel subsidy fund in Jakarta, for
2005/2006 state elementary schools get a total of Rp
39,625/student/month and state junior high schools
Rp 54,500/student/month.

Therefore, all school committees in Jakarta are expected to
exercise supervision and control over the implementation of this
policy on aid funds for school education, so as to guarantee
transparency and accountability.
