Scenes of Tehran's Destruction as US-Israel Strike Nearly Levelled It to the Ground
Debris lay scattered at the site of the air strike by Israel and the United States that hit a police headquarters in Tehran, Iran, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, amid escalating clashes between the two countries and Iran.
The air strike that rocked the capital on Monday left the building nearly levelled to the ground, while building materials and vehicle fragments were flung onto surrounding streets.
A screenshot from Reuters/WANA video showed an excavator deployed to clear the rubble from the collapsed building. Several cars were heavily damaged, and residents gathered to watch emergency crews assess the damage. Firefighters were also visible at the scene to secure the affected area.
In addition to the police station, nearby homes were severely damaged, and a children’s playground in the area appeared wrecked, adding to the tally of civilian infrastructure affected in the attack.
The strike comes amid the broadest military offensive in years launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. Iranian state media reported that the attack killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, provoking anger and vows of retaliation from Tehran. In response, Iran is said to have targeted Israeli and American assets across Gulf states. Reports described retaliatory strikes involving missiles and drones against several strategic targets, including British air bases in the region. The US-Israel conflict with Iran also widened on the same day, with Israel reportedly striking Lebanon in response to actions by Hezbollah, expanding the escalating, increasingly uncontrollable Middle East conflict.
