The Banyuwangi Regency government, East Java, is also encouraging local Civil Servants (ASN) to use pedal bicycles or public transport (online motorcycle taxis/ojol) to save Fuel Oil (BBM) amid uncertainties in fossil energy supplies resulting from the conflict in the Middle East.

Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani in Banyuwangi on Friday admitted to issuing a policy for BBM savings among local ASN, in addition to implementing one day of Work From Home (WFH) in line with the central government’s policy.

“Energy efficiency is a mitigation that must be carried out together in facing the uncertainty of the geopolitical turmoil situation in the Middle East. As part of the regional government, I invite all ASN to set an example in this energy-saving movement,” she said.

Ipuk outlined several policies, including efficiency in the use of official vehicles, and encouraging ASN to use public transport or ojol.

This encouragement, Ipuk continued, is also in line with the directive from President Prabowo Subianto, who asked all regions to prepare for the worst possibilities due to the dynamics occurring in the Middle East.

“This policy is currently being discussed in detail for immediate joint implementation; besides saving energy, cycling is also healthier for ASN,” said Ipuk.

“Besides being more effective with digital services, this step also helps save BBM consumption for official vehicles,” she added.

Ipuk further stated that this encouragement is not intended to cause concern among the public, but rather as a form of vigilance in facing global dynamics that could potentially affect energy supply stability, including BBM.

“Of course, we hope the conflict in the Middle East subsides soon, so it does not impact the world’s energy supply,” Ipuk remarked.
