Saudi envoy says 2026 Hajj to proceed despite Mideast tensions
“Alhamdulillah, Saudi Arabia remains safe at this time,” Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amudi told a press conference at his residence in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said all arrangements for this year’s Hajj are progressing smoothly in line with plans set by the Saudi government.
“Everything will proceed as planned,” he said, expressing confidence in the overall readiness of authorities to host pilgrims.
The ambassador’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, which have raised concerns among prospective pilgrims from several countries, including Indonesia.
He reiterated that the security situation in Saudi Arabia remains stable and that preparations have not been affected by regional developments.
Previously, on March 13, Faisal said that preparations for the 2026 Hajj season had been carried out properly without significant obstacles.
“God willing, preparations are running smoothly and according to plan, and there will be no impact,” he said at the time.
He added that logistical arrangements, including transportation and accommodation, are being managed in accordance with established procedures to ensure a smooth pilgrimage.
The ambassador also confirmed that flights transporting Indonesian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia will operate according to the scheduled timetable.
Air travel arrangements, he said, are being coordinated closely to ensure that all pilgrims can depart and return safely.
Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, sends one of the largest contingents of Hajj pilgrims each year.
The assurance from Saudi authorities is aimed at maintaining public confidence as millions prepare for the annual religious journey.
Faisal urged Indonesians not to be concerned about the current geopolitical situation, stressing that Hajj preparations remain unaffected.
He said the Saudi government continues to prioritize the safety and comfort of all pilgrims.
Authorities are also maintaining close coordination with partner countries to ensure smooth operations throughout the Hajj season.
