Saudi Arabia Hit by Missile and Drone Attacks, Defence Minister Urges Iran to Exercise Caution

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman has urged Iran to avoid miscalculation following launches of missiles and drones in the kingdom.

AFP reported in a series of statements on Saturday morning (7 March 2026) that the Saudi Ministry of Defence said it had thwarted repeated missile launches at air bases hosting US military personnel and drone attacks on key oil fields.

Iran continues to carry out attacks across the Gulf, a week after US-Israel strikes on the Islamic Republic sparked a regional war.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, reported at least two drone attacks earlier this week targeting the Ras Tanura refinery in the east.

Prince Khalid, in a post on X after meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Staff, said the two had discussed Iran’s attacks on the Kingdom and the steps needed to halt them.

“We emphasise that such actions undermine regional security and stability and we express hope that Iran will exercise wisdom and avoid miscalculation,” he added, cited on Saturday (7 March 2026).

Earlier, the Defence Ministry post on X stated, “a ballistic missile launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base” in the southeast of the capital Riyadh “was intercepted and destroyed.”

SPA later reported another missile attack at the same base, saying the strike was also intercepted, quoting a defence ministry spokesperson.

The agency also reported a series of drone attacks targeting the Shaybah oil field near the UAE border. The drones were “intercepted and destroyed.”

In a separate incident, a drone was intercepted east of Riyadh, according to the defence ministry.
