Saudi Arabia has denied claims that it lobbied US President Donald Trump to launch military attacks against Iran. The kingdom dismissed reports suggesting otherwise as untrue.

Saudi Arabia’s embassy spokesperson in Washington, Fahad Nazer, stated that the kingdom has consistently supported diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a credible agreement with Tehran.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been consistent in supporting diplomatic efforts to reach a credible agreement with Iran. Throughout all of our communications with the Trump administration, we have never lobbied the President to adopt a different policy,” Nazer said in a statement posted on social media, as reported by Saudi Gazette on Monday, 2 March 2026.

The statement responded to a report by The Washington Post, which cited four sources familiar with the matter and claimed that Trump launched an attack on Iran following weeks of lobbying efforts by Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The report also noted that US intelligence assessments did not identify an imminent threat, but regional allies argued in favour of military action.

Saudi Arabia’s statement underscored its long-standing position advocating for dialogue and diplomatic solutions to regional tensions, whilst rejecting the notion that it was pushing towards direct military confrontation.

The kingdom has repeatedly called for de-escalation and political resolution of disputes involving Iran, emphasising stability and security throughout the region.
