The Saudi Arabian government has condemned an Iranian attack on the US Embassy in Riyadh, the Saudi capital. The attack occurred as Iran continues its retaliatory campaign in the Gulf region following strikes by the United States and Israel.

According to the AFP news agency on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing “the strongest censure and rejection of the vicious attack targeting the US Embassy building in Riyadh”. The Ministry described the Iranian attack as “cowardly and unjustified”.

Previously, Saudi authorities reported that the US Embassy in Riyadh caught fire after being struck by two drones. The Saudi government stated that the embassy building sustained only minor material damage.

“The US Embassy in Riyadh became the target of an attack by two drones according to preliminary estimates, resulting in limited fire and minor material damage to the building,” said a spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defence.

The situation in the Middle East region remains tense following the initial US and Israeli attacks on Iran on Saturday, 28 February. They targeted command and control facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), ballistic missile and drone launch sites, military airfields, and Iranian air defence systems.

The US and Israeli strikes have killed several senior Iranian officials, including Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
